Can’t go to Bir-Billing for Paragliding? GO to INDRUNAG in Dharamshala!
The first time I went paragliding was in December 2019, a few months before the pandemic took over the world. I went to Bir Billing with my friends and had quite a great experience. A few weeks ago, I wanted to go again. But living in Dharamshala, going to Bir Billing is a bit of a headache if one has a tight schedule. So, instead I went to Indrunag- Dharamshala’s paragliding point! It is just 15 mins from Dharamshala bus stand and is equally adventurous. Continue readings if you require all the deets!
Whom to contact:
There are only two three companies that run business in Indrunag. Prior booking is not required. On the day you wish to fly, reach the location, go to any office and within 15 minutes you’ll be off in the air!
Pricing:
- Paragliding in Indrunag is MORE expensive than Bir Billing.
- When I went to Bir- I was charged 2500 including the GoPro.
- At Indrunag, I was charged 3000 without the GoPro.
- Bir Billing’s will thus be 1k cheaper with a Gopro.
You can see it as a con BUT reaching Indrunag from Dharamshala and Mcleodganj is much easier than going all the way to Bir.
Height:
Bir billing is claimed to be India’s highest paragliding location. The site is at an elevation of 1525m.
Where as, Indrunag’s height is at 2000m as you can go to a village named Banglotu and launch off from a greater height, making it even more adventurous!
Best time to paraglide:
- There is no best time, since paragliding is an adventure which can be done all year round. However, I recommend doing it in spring to fully enjoy the weather and temperatures.
Safety:
- Always check your instructors license.
- Fly between 9am to 12pm. It is not recommended to fly in the afternoon.
- Make sure you check the weather forecast before hand. We sure don’t want a remake of Crash Landing on you!!
- Do not over layer! The heat can cause nausea while flying!
ALWAYS REMEMBER:
- Don’t litter the mountains.
- Save water.
- Have fun!
